In an innovation-driven economy, intangible assets – such as a trademark, design, or invention – represent a company’s most valuable resources. To support small and medium-sized enterprises in securing these assets, the SME Fund continues in 2026, offering direct financial support in the form of intellectual property vouchers.
What is SME Fund 2026?
The SME Fund is an initiative of the European Commission, implemented by EUIPO (the European Union Intellectual Property Office), designed to provide financial assistance to SMEs established in the European Union or Ukraine. The program reimburses a significant part of the fees paid for registering intellectual property rights.
Which costs can be reimbursed?
The program operates through vouchers covering different categories of assets, reimbursing a certain percentage of the eligible costs:
- Trademark and Design Voucher – up to EUR 700
- Patent Voucher – between EUR 1,000 and EUR 2,500 (maximum amounts)
Who can apply?
All entities that fall under the European definition of an SME are eligible (companies with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of up to EUR 50 million).
The grant application process involves several technical steps: submitting the funding application, obtaining the voucher, registering the intellectual property asset, and subsequently requesting reimbursement.
Call timeline
Funds are limited and awarded on a “first come, first served” basis. We recommend submitting applications as early as possible in 2026 to ensure budget availability.
